Final Crisis #1
Solicitation : Witness the historic start of the final chapter in the Crisis trilogy that could only spring from the mind of Grant Morrison - Final Crisis, featuring stunning art by J.G. Jones (52 Covers)! Worlds will live and heroes will die in this epic tale spanning the beginning and end of the DC Universe!
The entire Multiverse is threatened as the mysterious Libra assembles an army of the DCU's most terrifying super villains. But what is the ultimate plan, and who will live to find out?
Written by Grant Morrison Art by JG Jones
Synopsis: We open at the 'beginning' ( in story time of the DC Universe and not the actual idea) witnessing Anthro receiving knowledge ( A symbol revealed later on and fire ). We see how fire is used ( there is heavy fire allegory in Issue 1).
Dan Turpin finds Orion dead with the Black Racer behind him , who he presumably doesn't notice. A dying Orion begs humanity to fight saying "He is in you all". Major Spoilers in hindsight. Dan later meets the new Question who tells him that all doors lead to the mysterious "Dark Side Club"
John Stewart and Hal Jordan set up a crime scene at Orions murder scene. They inform the Guardians of the universe of the deicide (Code 1011) and they send a special forces Alpha Lanterns. Stewart informs the JLA. Superman puts the JLA condition on Amber. Batman tells them that he has a dossier for everyones benefit. As usual Bruce :)
Dr Light and Mirror Master beat up some losers and get Metron's chair and deliver it to Libra. Hilarious dialogue here. Libra informs them of his bid of leadership and brings forth the Martian Manhunter and kills him. Wow ! that came out of absolutely nowhere.
Dan Turpins meets Boss Dark Side who shows him that the children he was looking for are now the mindless slaves of The AntiLife Equation.
Kamandi comes running out of no where and asks Anthro to give him the weapon the gods had. A Glimpse of The Future ?
High above , outside the Multiverse, the monitors are pissed at Nix Uaton for his "failure" to save Universe 51 (probably the whole point of countdown huh ? To destroy Universe 51). He is exiled to earth where he gets up to see the news of Martian Manhunter's death. Umm , What The Hell !
Review:
A very solid opening to the story. The story has a lot of unnecessary pre-baggage on it like Countdown and Death Of The New Gods, hence it's difficult. Libra is being built as a genuine threat. He takes down MM in a panel! You see Darkseid growing in power slowly. The JLA is getting into things. Whats great is that Grant has a very good hold on every character so far, including Geoff's Green Lantern and is using them effectively, the way they should be.Anthro and Kamandi are well used
What i love most about Grant (which you will be seeing more in the later issues) is that he creates lot of new characters and makes them so interesting and complex that it feels as if they have been around for years! That is what we call superb writing
As For J.G Jones, one word - mind-blowing ! That had to be the most beautiful page ever, The One Of Metron meeting Anthro (posted below.)
It's like those old detective crime stories where all the players are coming together. The introduction of the Monitors etc is well done.
Great writing , Stellar art
Writing : 9
Art : 9.5
Next In Final Crisis : Heroes disappear and are taken away, Evil Grows and manifests and The Personification Of Sacrifice Returns.

I initially got only the sliver cover because I was repulsed by JG's water-colour rendering of Geoff's fantasy boyfriend, Hal Jordan. However, the amazing thing is that the sliver cover is a Freaking HUGE Spoiler as to the end of FINAL CRISIS!!! That's not Anthro or other cavemen drawing the S, WW and Bat-symbol on the cave wall...
ReplyDeleteI thought that was a cool, amazing preview of the actual ending of this incredible story!
I absoluely loved that. Grant Morrison spoiled the ending of Final Crisis as soon as it started !! Amazing. That's what I love. Grant throws things in your face. All you have to do is understand i.
